About Us
At Alma, our core values are R.E.A.L.
Reliability. Efficiency. Accountability. Leadership.
These shape how we approach every day, and every project.
Reliability When we commit to a project, we see it all the way through. Clients can count on us to show up, communicate openly, and deliver on every promise we make — no exceptions, no excuses.
Efficiency Time is money. So is the budget. Especially in construction. We take pride in our precise planning process, effective trade coordination, and ability to move projects forward to ensure no wasted time or money.
Accountability We own our work completely. If something isn't right, we find a way to make it right. No finger-pointing. From the first quote to the final walkthrough, accountability starts — and ends — with us.
Leadership Over two decades in this industry have taught us that great construction starts with great leaders. And the best leaders are the best communicators. We lead the project so you don’t have to. We want you to feel like you’ve hired a partner, not just a contractor.
Alma Construction was built on a straightforward belief: that clients deserve honesty, reliability, and genuine care at every stage of a construction project.
Our clients often tell us that working with other companies comes with chasing updates, absorbing surprise costs, or navigating a revolving door of subcontractors with no single point of accountability. We built Alma to be the alternative.
Alma is a family-owned operation with experienced leadership, a commitment to accurate quoting, and a team that treats every project with the same care we'd bring to our own homes and businesses.
We specialize in commercial and residential renovations across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland — from tenant improvements and office buildouts to custom homes, major renovations, and laneway housing.
Whatever the scope, our approach is the same: plan honestly, execute efficiently, and build something we stand behind completely.
Our Leadership Team
Meet Tony Chebaya
Tony Chebaya arrived in Canada nearly four decades ago and built his career the hard way, learning the Canadian business landscape from the ground up. He started his career working his way through progressively senior roles across Vancouver, France, New York, and China. Along the way, he earned an MBA from Simon Fraser University and a Certificate of e-Business from UBC, which propelled him to a career of over twenty years as a CIO and senior executive at national and international companies across multiple industries.
In 2007, Tony left the corporate world to pursue something he'd had in mind for years: building a construction company specializing in tenant improvement, rooted in honest work and genuine client care. That became Alma Construction.
Tony credits his success throughout his career to being both a smart AND hard worker — which he has infused into Alma’s DNA. This translates to Alma’s reputation for consistently delivering results on time and within budget.
Outside of Alma, Tony has been a pillar of the Vancouver community for decades. On top of being a constant construction partner for many local businesses, Tony is a graduate of Leadership Vancouver, has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, contributed to United Way Canada, co-founded the Gambier/Fircom community on Gambier Island, and worked with the Vancouver School Board on the Computers for Schools initiative, among many others. He and his wife Amal have been recognized with the Extraordinary Generosity and Dedication in Service award — a reflection of the values he brings to every client relationship.
Tony's motto says it best: "Business is good, clients are happy, and life is beautiful."
Meet Chris Chebaya
Chris didn't follow the beaten path into construction. He got his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at UBC, and spent another two years post-graduation pursuing physiotherapy before realizing the physio path wasn't meant for him. During that crossroads moment in 2018, he took stock of what was around him. He realized he had a built-in mentor in the construction industry, hiding in plain sight. At the same time, Chris was determined to carve his own path. This led to him taking a job as a Tenant Improvement Site Coordinator at one of Vancouver’s largest development firms.
It turned out to be the perfect fit. Chris worked his way up to Project Manager, spending four years perfecting his craft and learning the ins and outs of the industry at one of the Lower Mainland's largest construction companies. After four years, he decided he was ready for a new challenge. He made the move to a more mid-sized general contracting firm, where he knew his responsibilities would be heightened. He rose to the challenge, earning his PMP certification before eventually being promoted to Senior Project Manager. As Senior PM, he took on the firm’s largest and most complex tenant improvement projects in Vancouver.
In 2025, Chris took a leap of faith. He walked away from his well-paying Senior PM role to come back to Alma. Not because it was the safe, easy, or comfortable move, but because with all of his experience, he had now earned the opportunity to build on what his father had started — and to put his mind towards fixing something he'd watched frustrate clients throughout his career: the gap between what a contractor quotes and what they actually bill. Accurate, no-surprises quoting is now central to how Alma approaches every project.
Outside of Alma, Chris shares Tony’s affinity for being present in his community. In his free time, Chris volunteers — he has been a volunteer minor hockey coach since 2017 and has served as a mentor with the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA).
Chris credits his unique path with his now crystal clear view of how the industry operates, including the quoting practices that cost clients the most.
